Instructions for Milling Feeds and Speeds Calculator

This is a calculator for computing the correct feeds and speeds (RPM and IPM) for milling machines. It differs from other online calculators because it is an OPTIMIZING calculator -- each parameter has a range from minimum to maximum. The calcuator searches for the best cut (maximizing MRR) while keeping all parameters within the range you specify.

Feed rates and spindle speeds - WOODWEB

feed rate = (spindle speed) x (chip load) x ( # flutes ) From contributor G: Diameters make a difference. A small diameter tool does not have rigidity (.125 vs. a .750). So, on a smaller diameter you require a higher rpm, so as not to put undue force on the tool, or breakage occurs.

The end mill speed is calculated with the following formula: n [rpm] = (vc [m/min] *1000) / 3.14 * ø d1 [mm]) Example calculation: vc = 500 m/min (selected from chart) d = ø 8 mm 19904 rpm = (500 *1000) / (3.14 * 8). If the maximum speed of the milling motor is lower than the calculated value, the maximum speed of the milling motor needs to be inserted into the formula for the feed calculation.
