Indexable end mill confusion - Practical Machinist
On another thread indexable end mills were suggested for some tough machining.I'm confused about all the configurations of the mills and what they are used for,quality etc and are holders interchangeable from on brand to another.I would like to keep it simple with some basic common type inserts and is the type with holes for screw on best?Thanks in advance for any ideas.

You're not going to find a typical 2 or 3 insert end mill to be a center-cutting type. The only ones I know of that are center-cutting would be the old (but still current product) Valenite CenterDex. This might actually be a good thing for your needs. With the right inserts, it cuts pretty nice despite being a 1-effective flute tool.
