I started out with a 1/3hp 2x42" Belt/Disc made by Dayton but is also made by a whole range of suppliers and distributed by Grainger, Zoro, etc. for around $200-250. I would say that the value you get from that machine over a 1x30" or 4x36" from Harbor Freight is large.
